Independence Days
I am going to do a challenge thrown down by my friend Sharon(see links on the left for her blog), involves doing a lot of your own food production and supporting local producers. The steps are:
1. Plant something
2. Harvest something
3. Preserve something
4. Reduce waste
5. Preparation and Storage
6. Build Community Food Systems
7. Eat the Food
For this week I planted tomato, peppers and eggplant plants that promptly got frost burned.
I may get an asparagus spear this week.
Nothing to preserve right now.
I'm forever composting or feeding scraps to the chickens.
Right now we are eating some of our food storage because I'm too lazy to go shopping.
I sold some eggs and gave some away. I also bought plants from a really local greenhouse.
We eat the food, everyday.

It's May
I'm working on the garden a little at a time. Peas are in. Lettuce, spinach, beets, tatsoi and mache' are in. I don't think my blueberries survived.
I was really lazy and did not start any plants indoors. I bought tomato, pepper, eggplant, cabbage, snapdragon and marigold plants.
I did start some melon plants indoors on the windowsill.

Obsession
Quilting is my latest obsession. This is a table runner that I made last week. It's about 17.5 x 51. Cutting out the pieces was the most time consuming part. I'm contemplating a Etsy store when I get a little more proficient. The top picture is the runner quilted but not yet bound. The bottom one is completely finished. I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out.
